Kitchens for Good
A MILESTONE MOMENT
BUILDING THE CULINARY IMPACT CENTER
THE VISION
This is more than a building. This is a launchpad for dreams.
Kitchens for Good (KFG) believes in a simple but powerful idea: food has the power to change lives. For more than a decade, KFG has transformed this belief into measurable impact—providing job skills to individuals experiencing barriers to employment, supporting local food entrepreneurs, and producing nutritious meals for food-insecure San Diegans.
Now, we stand at a historic turning point. KFG has entered escrow to acquire a permanent home, where we will establish San Diego’s first Culinary Impact Center—a regional hub for workforce development, economic mobility, and community nourishment.
We are deeply grateful for the belief and investment of Better World Trust and the Conrad Prebys Foundation in Kitchens for Good’s next chapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
KFG’s lease is nearing its end and extending it for another term is not an option. The cost of leasing and renovating existing kitchens is not a sustainable model.
A permanent home allows KFG to:
- Expand training for opportunity youth, justice-involved adults, and emerging food entrepreneurs.
- Increase meal production for institutional partners and community food programs.
- Scale social enterprise revenues that fuel long-term organizational sustainability.
- Provide stable, affordable, and safe facilities for hands-on learning, small business incubation, and economic mobility.
The Culinary Impact Center is central to KFG’s 10-year vision for greater impact and self-sufficiency.
The new facility enables KFG to:
- Train more people: Doubling training capacity across culinary, baking, food service, and microenterprise programs.
- Create more jobs: Expanding our meal contract operations and apprenticeships that provide paid, real-world experience.
- Support more entrepreneurs: Offering affordable production space, business coaching, and revenue-generating retail opportunities.
- Increase food security: Growing our capacity to prepare meals for the community.
A permanent home ensures KFG can continue to transform lives for decades to come.
2250 4th Ave was chosen because it offers:
- A central, transit-accessible location for the populations we serve
- A large footprint suitable for commercial kitchen infrastructure
- Structural flexibility for training, production, and enterprise operations
- Proximity to customers, community partners, and employment hubs
- A purchase price significantly below replacement cost
After a two-year search, this property best aligns with program needs, growth goals, and financial feasibility.
The complete kitchen buildout will be $2.8 million. We’ve secured the funds needed to complete the design and permitting processes, and we’ll launch a capital campaign soon. To keep costs down and the buildout on track, Kitchens for Good is partnering with HomeAid San Diego.
Estimated Timeline:
- Purchase Completion early 2026
- Design & Permitting: 3–6 months
- Construction/Build-Out: 9–12 months
- Opening of Culinary Impact Center: Targeting late 2026
These timelines may shift based on funding progress and permitting requirements.
During the transition, KFG will maintain full program delivery at its current sites without compromising the apprentice experience.
