Sonia is responsible for coordinating all donor outreach efforts and assisting the team with implementing Kitchens for Good’s annual fundraising plan.
Prior to joining Kitchens for Good, Sonia worked as Development Director for Empowerment International, an international nonprofit organization that provided educational opportunities for at-risk youth and their families in Nicaragua. After working and living abroad for 6 years, Sonia decided to move back home and give back to her community.
Sonia was born in Chicago, IL but was raised most of her life in southeast San Diego, where she attended middle and high school. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Chicago and has 9 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector in advocacy, fundraising, and project management. Prior to joining the nonprofit sector, she worked in the California State Legislature as a policy analyst covering environmental and health policy. She continues to be involved in her community as president of the Oak Park Neighborhood Council and was recently awarded a women’s leadership award in community activism by Assembly Member Shirley Weber, 79th Assembly District. She is an avid San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoys a good cup of coffee. On her bucket list is visiting at least 30 countries in her lifetime, becoming fluent in a third language, and running 3 marathons before she turns 40.
