Ray has enjoyed three decades producing and promoting good food, both as an entrepreneur and as a marketer in the grocery industry. With roots in the Midwest, Ray brought his zeal for delicious food to San Diego in the form of successful retail and catering startups which he owned and operated over 15 years. Following the sales of those businesses, Ray enjoyed a new career in marketing with Whole Foods. That experience heightened his awareness of food issues and enabled him to take action on food waste and to initiate programs furthering nutrition and access to healthful food. His work promoting local growers and local sourcing within the San Diego Unified School District served as a catalyst for development of the Farm to School Taskforce, which today connects multiple school districts and community partners with area growers and distributors to bring local fruits and vegetables to school cafeterias.
