Events Chef Karl Prohaska is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and has been a San Diego resident for the past 12 years.
He came into the culinary world after spending 10 years in the US Air Force. He graduated from Stratford College and has been working in the industry ever since with companies like McCormick and Schmick, Gaylord Opryland, and Hilton and Starwood Hotels. He came to San Diego to be the Executive Chef at the Handlery Hotel for 10 years before moving on to be the Chef and General Manager of the Mad House Comedy Club.
His culinary training leans more toward French but years in the hotel industry and his abiding love of food have given him an appreciation of global cuisine. His personal creedo is this: Great food is relatively simple. Buy great ingredients; handle them properly; cook and season them well; and try to not let your ego screw all that up”
He’s a married father with three great kids and a spectacular dog. When not cooking, he is an avid painter and performs in clubs as a stand-up comedian. He is generally regarded as loud and unpleasant.
